I spent some
time traveling in the fall of 2005. On my journey
I had the
pleasure of enjoying a few fine meals. I thought I
would share some
of what these restaurants had to offer.
The Peekskill Grill – Peekskill,
New York
My friend
Plummer took me there one Friday evening while I was visiting. I thoroughly
enjoyed the grilled mahi mahi, accented by a fine salsa. It was served with a
basmati rice and a generous helping of young peas in the pod. I had lived in
the city back in the mid 70s but they never had restaurants like this one
then. |

Lebro’s Restaurant – Getzville,
New York
My friends Mark and Melodie began the afternoon at the Shea’s Buffalo Theatre watching Hairspray. It was a magnificent show and we then headed over to Lebros for dinner. I had the veal scallopini, which was outstanding, as was the sauce on the side pasta dish. I also tried a sample of the Italian wedding soup and the chicken cutlet in cream sauce and both were superb. Getzville is near my home, northeast of Buffalo. |
Café Luna – Raleigh, North Carolina
Thom and Linda took me to this restarant for lunch and I ordered the shrimp fra diavolo. It was seasoned just right and the sauce was out of this world. The menu had a few other choices, which I wished I could have tried. They sounded as good as my entrée but you can’t try everything at once. There’s always the next time. |

Shrimp Factory – Savannah,
Georgia
I had walked along the river before checking in to my hotel room and saw a few dinner possibilities. I asked the woman at the hotel for a recommendation and she offered the above choice. My dinner choice was the mahi blackened, which was served with sliced red peppers over angel hair pasta in a butter lemon sauce, quite a treat. I also had a salad, tossed by the waiter. |
Bubba Gump – Daytona Beach, Florida
My choice that warm evening was shrimpin’ dippin’ broth, ½ pound of shrimp in a butter beef broth served with coleslaw, rice and a nice chunk of Italian bread for dipping. I began with a garden salad. Everything was outstanding. My only regret was I had no room for key lime pie. Fortunately, I would have another chance for this dessert soon. |

Hyman’s Seafood– Charleston, South
Carolina
I was told that Hyman’s was
the best seafood restaurant in the city and my meal that evening verified
that opinion. I had a sesame crusted tuna, done medium rare with rice, hush
puppies and coleslaw. I indulged in some boiled peanuts before the main
course arrived along with a palmetto lager, the local brew. That night I had
a piece of key lime pie and it was heavenly, as was everything else.
