The appeal of The Read My Lips Cookbook

1. the recipes are:

healthy - good for losing weight and keeping it off
The majority of the recipes stay away from fat, salt and sugar.
There is exactly one recipe in the book with cheese, for French
Onion Soup. In fact the word "cheese" is mentioned only twice.
The other time is in an anecdote. Despite this you will find that
the recipes are

good tasting
What good are recipes that are good for you but taste like
marinated maple bark or seasoned sytrofoam? Even if the
recipes are healthy and delicious, no one will cook them
unless they are

easy to make
You may have seen me on WNED Cooks: Q is for Quick
and Easy
making chocolate mousse. That recipe is not
unlike all of the others in that it is simple. Recipes that
take hours and hours, aren't generally worth it.

economical
The name of the book should clue you in that the recipes
won't put you on welfare. Think of George H. W. Bush,
his promise, the recession and you can see the connection.
That's where the title originated.

2. the book is entertaining - you will laugh at
the anecdotes but will also be instructed

3. the index of recipes will make finding recipes easier

4. there are plenty of hints to make your life easier
as a cook, gardener, party planner and tailgater

5. you'll delight at the book even if you have no
intention of ever stepping into a kitchen
